June Minutes:
The Northeast Johnson County Republican Women
After a social time the meeting was called to order by Erin Metters. Ms. Metters lead us in grace and the flag salute. She reviewed the club objectives.
State Senator Julia Lynn presented a Fast Five. She talked about Governor Kelly’s vetoes of important legislation passed in 2019.
A motion by Pat Conway was made to accept the minutes and seconded by Patty Lou Cleary. The treasurer’s report was given. Our May balance was $2,761.63 and our current balance is $2,709.94. Judy Swofford moved that we accept the report. Bonnie King seconded it. Judy Swofford, membership chairman, reported that she didn’t have an update on Pat Smith. Bonnie King reported that in July the program will be a flag building by the Masonic Sojourners and in August the speaker will be Sara Weir, a tentative candidate for the Third District in US House. Ms. Metters reported that the ladies won’t work at Safe Home this month but will work in July. Pat Conway reported that we have donated enough to give the Tiny Houses another gift card for $46. There will be a tour this afternoon. Ms. Metters reported that the Third District ladies met on June 8 and learned that dues will go up soon. Our club will host the next meeting. Patty Lou Cleary collected for brags and for missing pins. Diana Barnes held the 50/50 raffle and I won $9. Coming events: Elephant Club will meet June 18 at YaYa’s Bistro at 11:30. The speaker is Scott Schwab. The Northeast Johnson County Conservatives will meet at the Blue Moose in Prairie Village at 6:15 PM. Remember to check www.jcrpks.org and www.nejcrwc.com for more information.
Today’s words of wisdom came from George Herbert Walker Bush. They are:
“Whoever says American’s best days are behind it are looking in the wrong direction”
“Be strong, be kind, be generous of spirit, be understanding, and let people know how grateful you are. Don’t get even. Comfort the ones I’ve hurt and let down. Say your prayers and ask God’s understanding and strength. Finish with a smile and some gusto and do what’s right and finish strong.”
The speaker, Steve Snitz, for the afternoon was introduced. He spoke about the Northeast Johnson County Conservatives. They were organized 5 years ago to make a place for conservatives to go and feel comfortable. He discussed problems that the conservatives have with image, presenting their message and in winning elections. During his speech he took questions.
The meeting adjourned at 1:09 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Pat Schroder
